The band were at this time holed up in Hackney, East London, and the 12" was paid for in part by a grant from the Princes Trust. Kerrang magazine gave the record 3 out of 5, and it was played on Sveriges Radio P3 in Sweden and Hackney Sound Radio. 'Shadowstalking' was an attempt at the dance/rock crossover perfected years earlier by Pop Will Eat Itself and Gaye Bykers on Acid. It was recorded on an enormous 24 track SSL desk in the middle of the night by a sound engineering student who couldn't understand a word we said. 'Asshole' stopped being part of the live set after November 1999. It's pretty representative of the punk metal sound Squad 69 still have today. 'Pyramaniaxe' is now on its' 7th incarnation, and this early demo sounds bloody weird in comparison. Both B sides were recorded at home on a 4 track cassette recorder. All 3 tracks were mastered at Abbey Road on May 30th by Steve Rooke. 500 copies were originally pressed. Only 5 were ever sold, and one of them was to Jason’s brother. | ||
