It's punk, it's metal, it's
rock n' roll even industrial and I like it. I guess it reminds me of Vice
Squad, but that's really cause of the female vocals. I am partial to female
vocals and this lady can sing, always a good start.
This is a well produced, well mixed, polished sounding demo which is just
another reason you should get hold of this CD. It's hard to compare this to
other bands, it's pretty unique - which is a damn good thing.
The intro to the second track 'Breed for Freedom' is quality, a radio link
in. There are loads of great samples on here too - and I am a fan of a well
used, well placed sample.
I didn't expect to hear a mention of pubic lice in a song, but yep, they got
one on the track 'Huh Whore'. So overall, very fookin' impressed with this
band. - Mr. T,

Wish You Were Higher, Kiddies? - 2006
This is a split EP between two Bridgwater bands. I can't tell which of the tracks were by which band, or indeed if they were a collaboration (which I suspect, and if that's true then that's unspeakably cool). All tracks are backed with a Jesus and Mary Chain style 80s drum machine and metallic guitars whilst the vocals veer towards Prolapse (female vox) and Chumbawumba (male). There's definite humour to this bunch ... Squad 69 are something of an all-out assault on the senses. I didn't think I liked this when I first heard it, and then I realised I'd listened to it about six times over! - Andrew Culture Beat Motel
Squad 69 never cease to amaze me. Every six months or so another EP surfaces and it's as ace as all that has gone before. This take-no-prisoners punk outfit (that's punk as in ethos) moved from the delights of east London to Somerset some years ago to experience the Good Life and haven't mellowed one iota, though for this release they pulled in two members of an outfit called She Said Shit to compensate for the mighty Edel, who's "on maternity leave".... 'Dead Yet' is a full-on Iggy-ish blast, 'Bass Aspace' is a jaunty death metal tune (think Debbie Harry fronting Sabbath) that has a chorus of “Marijuana", and 'Goldie Lookin' Groover' is a retro jazzy thing with wah-wah geetars, a groovy beat and crazy gal vocals, all three tracks melding with bizarre cut-up samples. If you like music, you'll love this. - Nik Moore playlouder.com
Authentic punk peppers the three-tracker which presents the squad's world of samples, laid back vocals, guitar fury and incisive rhythm. An inventive flair for melody, coupled with the primal anger of punk - Dan Sales Bridgwater Mercury
Methanol Soul - 2005
Smells like true flea-pit punk rock spirit. Firing on all glam-metal-punk cylinders, this Taunton five-piece take you on a manic roller-coaster ride into territory best described as heavy and unhinged.- Huw Stephens BBC Radio One
Tight female fronted punk rock from Taunton's finest, with much better recording quality than there last EP, it sounds a lot livelier (especially the live tracks) & it's well put together. There are a lot of samples, including Beethoven & Nazi's & the songs have a lot to them, mixing in elements of metal & grunge with loadsa energy. The live tracks are tight & not to bad on sound quality too, with plenty of enthusiasm n' are probably my fave songs too. - ARF Zine
With 'pay no more that 50p' written across the front of their CDs, Squad 69 are almost as rock n roll as it gets. Rock n roll, not in the T-Rex, rich as a cunt glam rock star way, but in their genuine 'rock n roll lives on stage' ideals. They believe "a recording is nothing more than a promotional item designed to attract an audience", which is something I think we often overlook. Bands should be on stage, not hidden behind a CD. long live the mighty gig. Their 6 track mini album (4 studio, 2 live) kicks off with 'Breed For Freedom', a crashy rendition of Beethovens 5th Symphony counted in with "eins, zwei, drei, veir, funf, sech, seiben", with jerky female punky vocals with drum and guitar firmly rooted in metal. On the second track '1994' again there are references to Germany in the song, well, the whole thing's a sarcastic/parodic politically fuelled metal song with facist/nazi reference, about the Tory party and their Public Order Act of that year, which is also when/why Squad 69 got together. "What side of the fence you on? A true blue nazi saxon mother's son?" After 3 metal fuelled tracks, but before the last song on the album (the slightly ballady 'something wrong inside'), Squad 69 give us a little taste of their live performance, with 2 tracks recorded live, 'Ev'rything Sucks' and 'Revenge'. Both carry their trademark metal guitars and punk female vocal, a very pleasing combination. If you're into the punk / metal soundclash go give them a listen, or better still go see them live. - Thomas Highstreet JoyzineThanks for sending in your tracks too. We've listened back to them, and we feel we might have a problem getting permission from our editors to put them up on the site. We'll check though to see whether we can use them with an explicit lyrics warning. Have you possibly got any other tracks you could send us at all though? - Anthony Babajee BBC Somerset
English Inches - 2004
Theyre rock-y and punk-y - Motorhead style even slowing it down to almost Doom Metal level for the last track - and sound early-Tool/Sabbath-ish with rhythmically crunchy guitars and a gritty rhythm section. With the added effect of having a female singer who isn't afraid to not suck a bit of advice a lot of modern rock lasses could take heed of. This is 3 tracks of quality music and strange voice-overs - with bonus videos that are frankly just great - both clips are twice as entertaining as anything Ive seen on Scuzz or Kerrang in a long time. This is worth seeking out Squad 69 should be getting a lot bigger than this. RockReview Rating: 7 / 10 - Bort, Rock Review
"'Nobody Is Innocent' is clattering drumbeats, a bass n guitar riff The Stooges would die for and the dont-give-a-fuck vocals of Edel. 'Lords & Ladies' opens with a mad German scientist explaining his devilish contraption before a Black Sabbath-like riff builds into a wild punk-storm. Why the FUCK would ANYONE buy a Starsailor or Travis single when they could buy THIS?" - Nik Moore playlouder.comThis CD is nothing short of perfect metal stripped down to its grass roots with great power, great speed and distinct passion. - Richard Leigh, Alt-UK
Cut up punk rock digital hardcore collage chaos, real punk rock attitude bass heavy girl powered punk rock DIY glue-it-back together chaos parental guidance totally needed, lots of naughty words and deeds and digital/analogue rumble visuals and video bits and I dont know what shes on about but it sounds refreshingly depraved punk rock creativity that doesnt need permission from anyone - Organart

Chemical Metal - 2003
"They still sound like the dark wave sexstrut of Skinjob or The Banshees with a filthy Lemmy beast on bass and a messy cut up DIY lo-fi vibe that's cut with the best/worst amphetamine reptiles." - Organart
"Like Siouxsie Sioux fronting an amphetamine-fuelled Soft Cell with Lemmy on bass." - Nik Moore playlouder.com
"Comes on like a lo-fi rendering of Queen Adreena, mixed with a shout along chorus that puts many of the current garage crop to shame, and it's all driven along by a filthy bassline and stuttering drums." - Paul Madden, Kaytronika
"The female vocal is all 'intelligent punk' without surplus bile to put you off, and the XTRMNTR era Primal Scream chord work with maybe a hint of Motorhead adds up to an enjoyable fat-free ride. Nice sample at the start as well." - Weekender fanzine
Ev'rything Sucks - 2001
"Bathtime will never quite be the same again once you've watched the video. Cool stuff or what?" - Osmosis
"A fantastic speed-rush punk-metal-beats thing that moves along at a ferocious pace, mangled guitars barely keeping up with the drumming, and a punkarama girl's vocal cementing it into place. It's Debbie Harry fronting The Ramones, and it's beautiful." - Nik Moore playlouder.com
